1 Samuel 24: ⁴They [his followers] whispered to David, "The LORD told you he was going to let you defeat your enemies.... David sneaked over and cut off a small piece of Saul's robe, but Saul didn't notice a thing. ⁵Afterwards, David was sorry that he had even done that, ⁶-⁷and he told his men, "Stop talking foolishly. We're not going to attack Saul. He's my king, and I pray that the LORD will keep me from doing anything to harm his chosen king." (CEV)

Psalms 32: ⁷You are my hiding place! You protect me from trouble, and you put songs in my head because you have saved me. ⁸You said to me, "I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you. (CEV)

Psalms 62: ⁵Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him. ⁶God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe, and he is thc fortress where I feel secure. ⁷God saves me and honors me....  ⁸Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each one of your concerns. God is.our place of safety. ⁹We humans are only a breath; none of us are truly great.... Al] of us together weigh less than a puff of air. ¹⁰Don't.... rely on great wealth. ¹¹I heard God say two things: "I am powerful, ¹²and I arn very kind." The LORD rewards each of us according to what we do. (CEV)

Psalm 63: ¹You are my God. I worship you. In my heart, I long for you, as I would long for a stream in a scorching desert ⁷You have helped me, and I sing happy songs in die shadow of your wings. 8I stay close to you, and your powerfil arm supports me. (CEV)

Psalms 65: ⁵.... You give hope to people everywhere on earth, even those across the sea....  ⁸People far away marvel at your fearsome deeds, and all who live under the sun celebrate and sing because of you.  ⁹You take care of the earth and send rain to help the soil grow all kinds of crops. Your rivers never run dry, and you prepare the earth to produce much grain.... You send showers of rain to soften thc soil and help thc plants sprout. "Wherever your footsteps touch thc earth, a rich harvest is gathered. ¹²Desert pastures blossom....  ¹³Meadows are filled with sheep and goats; valleys overflow with grain and echo with joyful songs. (CEV)

Colossians 1. Christ lives in you, and he is your hope of sharing in Godrs glory. ²⁸We announce the message about Christ, and we use all our wisdom to warn and teach everyone, so that all of Christ's followers will grow and become mature. (CEV)

1. Why does real hope expect God's blessings and kindness rather than just wishing for them?
2. When David refused to kill king Saul, how did this express his hope and faith in God?
3. How does God keep this world producing food and enable us to hope for even greater things?
4. How does CIrrist living in us, the hope of sharing in God's glory, lead to growth and maturity?
5. Explain a time in your life when you first began to hope and expect to live forever in Heaven.
