Matthew 4: ¹⁸While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake. ¹⁹Jesus said to them, "Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish." ²⁰Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him. (CEV)

Luke 22: ³²But Simon, I have prayed that your faith will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others." ³³Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to jail and even to die with you." ³⁴Jesus replied, "Peter, I tell you that before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me." (CEV)

Luke 22: ⁵⁴Jesus was arrested and led away to the house of the high priest, while Peter followed at a distance. ⁵⁵Some people built a fire in the middle of the courtyard and were sitting around it. Peter sat there with them, (CEV)

Luke 22: ⁵⁹About an hour later another man insisted, "This man must have been with Jesus. They both come from Galilee." ⁶⁰Peter replied, "I don't know what you are talking about!" Right then, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed. ⁶¹The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered that the Lord had said, "Before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me." ⁶²Then Peter went out and cried hard. (CEV)

John 21: ¹⁷Jesus asked a third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus had asked him three times if he loved him. So he told Jesus, "Lord, you know everything. You know I love you." Jesus replied, "Feed my sheep. ¹⁸I tell you for certain that when you were a young man, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will hold out your hands. Then others will wrap your belt around you and lead you where you don't want to go." ¹⁹ .... Then he said to Peter, "Follow me!" (CEV)

2 Peter 1: ¹⁰ ....do all you can to show that God has really chosen and selected you. If you keep on doing this, you won't stumble and fall. ¹¹Then our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will give you a glorious welcome into his kingdom that will last forever. ¹²You are holding firmly to the truth that you were given. But I am still going to remind you of these things. ¹³In fact, I think I should keep on reminding you until I leave this body..... ¹⁵That is why I am doing my best to make sure that each of you remembers all of this after I am gone. (CEV)

1. Why was Peter a good choice for someone to teach others the message about Jesus
2. When Peter followed at a distance and tried to blend in with the crowd, what does that show us?
3. How can we learn to follow Jesus even when we have to risk our lives and everything that we have?
4. What attitude does God want us to adopt when we have been afraid of what other people think?
5. Explain how you prepare yourself each day to put the priorities of God and Jesus first.
