Deuteronomy 27: ¹⁶We ask the LORD to put a curse on all who do not show respect for their father and mother.(CEV)

Exodus 2: ¹A man from the Levi tribe married a woman from the same tribe, ²and she later had a baby boy. He was a beautiful child, and she kept him inside for three months. ³But when she could no longer keep him hidden, she made a basket out of reeds and covered it with tar. She put him in the basket and placed it in the tall grass along the edge of the Nile River. (CEV)

1 Kings 3: ²⁶"Please don't kill my son," the baby's mother screamed. "Your Majesty, I love him very much, but give him to her. Just don't kill him." The other woman shouted, "Go ahead and cut him in half. Then neither of us will have the baby." ²⁷Solomon said, "Don't kill the baby." Then he pointed to the first woman, "She is his real mother. Give the baby to her." (CEV)

2 Timothy 1: ⁵I also remember the genuine faith of your mother Eunice. Your grandmother Lois had the same sort of faith, and I am sure that you have it as well. (CEV)

Proverbs 1: ⁸My child, obey the teachings of your parents, ⁹and wear their teachings as you would a lovely hat or a pretty necklace. (CEV)

Proverbs 23: ²²Pay attention to your father, and don't neglect your mother when she grows old. (CEV)

Proverbs 31: ¹⁰A truly good wife is the most precious treasure a man can find!....
¹⁵She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family and for her servants....
²¹Her family has warm clothing, and so she doesn't worry when it snows....
²⁵She is strong and graceful, as well as cheerful about the future. ²⁶Her words are sensible, and her advice is thoughtful. ²⁷She takes good care of her family and is never lazy. ²⁸Her children praise her, and with great pride her husband says, ²⁹"There are many good women, but you are the best!" ³⁰Charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away, but a woman who honors the LORD deserves to be praised. ³¹Show her respect - praise her in public for what she has done. (CEV)

1. Why does God give mothers a special responsibility to birth, care for and train children?
2. When you had your own children, how and where did you get the most insight for raising them?
3. How was Timothy able to have the kind of faith that would make him a fellow worker with Paul?
4. What can we do for our mother when she gets to the age where she can't care well for herself?
5. Explain how God demonstrates for us the attributes of both a good father and a good mother.
