Romans 12: ¹ Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's the most sensible way to serve God. ²Don't be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him. ³I realize how kind God has been to me, and so I tell each of you not to think you are better than you really are. Use good sense and measure yourself by the amount of faith that God has given you. (CEV)

1 Samuel 16: ⁷But the LORD told him, "Samuel, don't think Eliab is the one just because he's tall and handsome. He isn't the one I've chosen. People judge others by what they look like, but I judge people by what is in their hearts." (CEV)

Jeremiah 9: ²³The LORD says: Don't brag about your wisdom or strength or wealth. ²⁴If you feel you must brag, then have enough sense to brag about worshiping me, the LORD. What I like best is showing kindness, justice, and mercy to everyone on earth. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 1: ²⁸What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. ²⁹God did all this to keep anyone from bragging to him. ³⁰You are God's children. He sent Christ Jesus to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy. ³¹So if you want to brag, do what the Scriptures say and brag about the Lord. (CEV)

Philippians 2: ¹²My dear friends, you always obeyed when I was with you. Now that I am away, you should obey even more. So work with fear and trembling to discover what it really means to be saved. ¹³God is working in you to make you willing and able to obey him. ¹⁴Do everything without grumbling or arguing. ¹⁵Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything that they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world, ¹⁶as you hold firmly tod the message that gives life. Then on the day when Christ returns, I can take pride in you. I can also know that my work and efforts were not useless. ¹⁷Your faith in the Lord and your service are like a sacrifice offered to him. (CEV)

Matthew 6: ³³But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well. (CEV)

1. Why should we be concerned with what God thinks of us more than what people think?
2. When we start boasting about our wisdom, strength, or wealth, what happens?
3. How does what we value help influence what we feel about our lives?
4. What causes us to want instant gratification as one of our first reactions?
5. Explain what Paul means by "present your bodies a living sacrifice."
