Matthew 5: ¹³You are like salt for everyone on earth. But if salt no longer tastes like salt, how can it make food salty? All it is good for is to be thrown out and walked on. ¹⁴You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden, ¹⁵and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. ¹⁶Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven. (CEV)

John 3: ²⁰People who do evil hate the light and won't come to the light, because it clearly shows what they have done. ²¹But everyone who lives by the truth will come to the light, because they want others to know that God is really the one doing what they do. (CEV)

Matthew 10: ²⁷Whatever I say to you in the dark, you must tell in the light. And you must announce from the housetops whatever I have whispered to you. (CEV)

John 8: ¹²Once again Jesus spoke to the people.... "I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life." (CEV)

Luke 1: ⁷⁹On us who live in the dark shadow of death this light will shine to guide us into a life of peace. (CEV)

Acts 13: ⁴⁷The Lord has given us this command, "I have placed you here as a light for the Gentiles. You are to take the saving power of God to people everywhere on earth." (CEV)

Ephesians 1: ¹⁸My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. (CEV)

Ephesians 5: ⁸.... you belong to the Lord. So act like people of the light ⁹and make your light shine. Be good and honest and truthful, ¹⁰as you try to please the Lord. (CEV)

Philippians 2: ¹⁵.... You live among people who are crooked and evil... Try to shine as lights among the people of this world, ¹⁶as you hold firmly to the message that gives life. (CEV)

1. Why does God use light to describe the truth, peace, and joy that Jesus and we bring to others?
2. When people refuse to come into God's light, what does that tell us about them?
3. How can our eyes become like a window for our body, as Jesus said in Matthew 6: 22?
4. What enables us to please God and understand Him when there is so much evil in the world?
5. Describe how the light that comes from knowing Jesus has changed the way you live.
