Matthew 5: ²¹You know that our ancestors were told, "Do not murder" and "A murderer must be brought to trial." ²²But I promise you that if you are angry with someone, you will have to stand trial. If you call someone a fool, you will be taken to court. And if you say that someone is worthless, you will be in danger of the fires of hell.²³So if you are about to place your gift on the altar and remember that someone is angry with you, ²⁴leave your gift there in front of the altar. Make peace with that person, then come back and offer your gift to God. ²⁵Before you are dragged into court, make friends with the person who has accused you of doing wrong. If you don't, you will be handed over to the judge and then to the officer who will put you in jail. ²⁶I promise you that you will not get out until you have paid the last cent you owe. (CEV)

Luke 12: ⁵¹Do you think that I came to bring peace to earth? No indeed! I came to make people choose sides. ⁵²A family of five will be divided, with two of them against the other three. ⁵³Fathers and sons will turn against one another, and mothers and daughters will do the same ... (CEV)

Mark 10: ¹³Some people brought their children to Jesus so that he could bless them by placing his hands on them. But his disciples told the people to stop bothering him. ¹⁴When Jesus saw this, he became angry and said, "Let the children come to me! Don't try to stop them. People who are like these little children belong to the kingdom of God. (CEV)

Proverbs 15: ¹A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up. (CEV)

Proverbs 25: ²³As surely as rain blows in from the north, anger is caused by cruel words. (CEV)

Proverbs 27: ⁴An angry person is dangerous, but a jealous person is even worse. (CEV)

Proverbs 29: ⁸Sneering at others is a spark that sets a city on fire; using good sense can put out the flames of anger. (CEV)

Ephesians 4: ²⁶Don't get so angry that you sin. Don't go to bed angry.... ³¹Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don't yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude. (CEV)

James 1: ¹⁹My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. ²⁰If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things that God wants done. (CEV)

1. Why does God want us to think of our own problems rather than judge another person?
2. When we jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts what mistakes can we make?
3. How do harsh words, sneering, and yelling make a person unfair and dangerous?
4. What happens in a family if members don't obey God and fight with and insult each other?
5. Describe how you learned to deal with patience and love to children who bothered you.
