Matthew 5: ³⁸You know that you have been taught, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." ³⁹But I tell you not to try to get even with a person who has done something to you. When someone slaps your right cheek, turn and let that person slap your other cheek. ⁴⁰If someone sues you for your shirt, give up your coat as well. ⁴¹If a soldier forces you to carry his pack one mile, carry it two miles. ⁴²When people ask you for something, give it to them. When they want to borrow money, lend it to them. (CEV)

Matthew 5: ⁴³You have heard people say, "Love your neighbors and hate your enemies." ⁴⁴But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you. ⁴⁵Then you will be acting like your Father in heaven. He makes the sun rise on both good and bad people. And he sends rain for the ones who do right and for the ones who do wrong. ⁴⁶If you love only those people who love you, will God reward you for that? Even tax collectors love their friends. ⁴⁷If you greet only your friends, what's so great about that? Don't even unbelievers do that? ⁴⁸But you must always act like your Father in heaven. Colossians 3: ¹²God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. ¹³Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. ¹⁴Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together. ¹⁵Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts. And be grateful. ¹⁶Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. (CEV)

Matthew 7: ⁶Don't give to dogs what belongs to God. They will only turn and attack you. Don't throw pearls down in front of pigs. They will trample all over them. (CEV)

Romans 12: ¹⁹Dear friends, don't try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says, "I am the one to take revenge and pay them back." .... ²¹Don't let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good. (CEV)

2 Timothy 1: ⁷God's Spirit doesn't make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control. ⁸Don't be ashamed to speak for our Lord . (CEV)

1. What makes each of us productive parts of God's family and keep our priorities on that?
2. How can God speak to the people around us through actions and attitudes of our daily lives?
3. Why did God choose the weak things of the world to make strong and wise people ashamed?
4. When friends meet and talk periodically how does that help us fight the "good fight of faith"?
5. Describe when you were able to avoid a nasty argument by being wise, patient, and humble.
