Matthew 6: 5When you pray, don't be like those show-offs
who love to stand up and pray in the meeting places and on the street corners.
They do this just to look good. I can assure you that they already have
their reward. 6When you pray, go into a room alone and close
the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private,
and he will reward you. 7When you pray, don't talk on and on
as people do who don't know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers.
8Don't
be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask.
9You should pray like this: Our Father
in heaven, help us to honor your name. 10Come and set up your
kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in
heaven.
11Give us our food for today. 12Forgive us
for doing wrong, as we forgive others. 13Keep us from being
tempted and protect us from evil. (CEV)
1. What is the attitude that God desires the most from us when
we talk to Him?
Luke 22: 32But Simon, I have prayed that your faith
will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others." ....
39Jesus went out to the Mount of Olives
....40When they got there, he told them, "Pray that you won't
be tested." ....
44Jesus was in great pain and prayed
so sincerely that his sweat fell to the ground like drops of blood. (CEV)
2. How do we learn to pray from reading of the times that Jesus
Himself talked with His Father?
Jeremiah 33: 3Ask me, and I will tell you things that
you don't know and can't find out. (CEV)
3. Why do we need to understand that God will give us what we
ask for according to His will?
John 17: 1After Jesus had finished speaking to his
disciples, he looked up toward heaven and prayed: Father, the time has
come for you to bring glory to your Son, in order that he may bring glory
to you. 2And you gave him power over all people, so that he
would give eternal life to everyone you give him. 3Eternal life
is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you
sent. (CEV)
4. When Jesus prayed, what were some of His greatest concerns
for us as His followers?
John 15: 7Stay joined to me and let my teachings become
part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer will
be answered. (CEV)
5. Tell how we as a group of God's children can remain faithful
to Jesus and be His Body.
1 Thessalonians 5: 16Always be joyful 17and
never stop praying. 18Whatever happens, keep thanking God because
of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do. (CEV)
6. Describe some things that we should think of when we pray
to our Heavenly Father.
