Matthew 7: 1Don't condemn others, and God won't condemn
you. 2God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will
treat you exactly as you treat them. 3You can see the speck
in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye. 4How
can you say, "My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye," when you
don't see the log in your own eye? 5You're nothing but show-offs!
First, take the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the
speck out of your friend's eye.
6Don't give to dogs what belongs to God.
They will only turn and attack you. Don't throw pearls down in front of
pigs. They will trample all over them. (CEV)
1 Corinthians 11: 31If we carefully judge ourselves,
we won't be punished. (CEV)
1. How can we avoid seeing all the little faults of others and
be blind to our own bigger faults?
Romans 2: 1Some of you accuse others of doing wrong. But there is no excuse for what you do. When you judge others, you condemn yourselves, because you are guilty of doing the very same things. 2We know that God is right to judge everyone who behaves in this way....(CEV)
Romans 14: 1Welcome all the LORD'S followers, even
those whose faith is weak. Don't criticize them for having beliefs that
are different from yours.... 4What right do you have to criticize
someone else's servants? Only their Lord can decide if they are doing right,
and the Lord will make sure that they do right. (CEV)
2. What are some reasons that God wants us to stop criticizing
and start loving others?
John 7: 24Don't judge by appearances. Judge by what is right. (CEV)
James 2: 12Speak and act like people who will be judged
by the law that sets us free. (CEV)
3. When we have to make decisions what are some ways to make
them good ones?
John 5: 22The Father doesn't judge anyone, but he
has made his Son the judge of everyone...
27And he has given
his Son the right to judge everyone, because he is the Son of Man.... 30...
The Father sent me, and he is the one who told me how to judge. I judge
with fairness....(CEV)
4. Tell us how you think Jesus will judge each of us with mercy
and fairness.
John 8: 15You judge in the same way that everyone else does, but I don't judge anyone. 16If I did judge, I would judge fairly, because I would not be doing it alone. (CEV)
John 12: 47I am not the one who will judge those who
refuse to obey my teachings. I came to save the people of this world, not
to be their judge. 48But everyone who rejects me and my teachings
will be judged on the last day by what I have said. (CEV)
5. In what sense is Jesus not our judge, and in what sense
is He our judge?
