Matthew 7: 7Ask, and you will receive. Search, and
you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8Everyone
who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will
be opened for everyone who knocks. 9Would any of you give your
hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? 10Would
you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish?
11As
bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children.
But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people
who ask. (CEV)
1. How does asking, searching, and knocking show God that we
have faith in Him?
Luke 8: 17There is nothing hidden that will not be
found. There is no secret that will not be well known. 18Pay
attention to how you listen! Everyone who has something will be given more,
but people who have nothing will lose what little they think they have.
(CEV)
2. Why does God give more good things to people who already
have much faith?
Jeremiah 29: 12You will turn back to me and ask for
help, and I will answer your prayers. 13You will worship me
with all your heart, and I will be with you (CEV)
John 15: 7Stay joined to me and let my teachings
become part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer
will be answered. 8When you become fruitful disciples of mine,
my Father will be honored. 9I have loved you, just as my Father
has loved me. So remain faithful to my love for you. 10If you
obey me, I will keep loving you, just as my Father keeps loving me, because
I have obeyed him. (CEV)
3. What happens as we grow older, if we work hard at understanding
the teachings of Jesus?
John 15: 11I have told you this to make you as completely
happy as I am. 12Now I tell you to love each other, as I have
loved you. 13The greatest way to show love for friends is to
die for them.
14And you are my friends, if you obey me. 15Servants
don't know what their master is doing, and so I don't speak to you as my
servants. I speak to you as my friends, and I have told you everything
that my Father has told me. 16You did not choose me. I chose
you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last.
Then my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. (CEV)
4. When Jesus treats us as His friends, how does that help us
produce lasting spiritual fruit?
1 John 5: 13All of you have faith in the Son of God,
and I have written to let you know that you have eternal life. 14We
are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases
him. 15And if we know that God listens when we pray, we are
sure that our prayers have already been answered. (CEV)
5. Tell us what it means to you to know for sure that you already
have eternal life.
