Matthew 7: 14Watch out for false prophets! They dress
up like sheep, but inside they are wolves who have come to attack you.
16You
can tell what they are by what they do. No one picks grapes or figs from
thornbushes. 17A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree
produces bad fruit.
18A good tree cannot produce bad fruit,
and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. 19Every tree that
produces bad fruit will be chopped down and burned. 20You can
tell who the false prophets are by their deeds. (CEV)
1. How does our heart determine whether we will bear fruit of
the Spirit or bad fruit.
Psalms 1: 1God blesses those people who refuse evil advice and won't follow sinners or join in sneering at God. 2Instead, the Law of the LORD makes them happy, and they think about it day and night.3They are like trees growing beside a stream, trees that produce fruit in season and always have leaves. Those people succeed in everything they do.4That isn't true of those who are evil, because they are like straw blown by the wind. 5Sinners won't have an excuse on the day of judgment, and they won't have a place with the people of God. 6The LORD protects everyone who follows him, but the wicked follow a road that leads to ruin.(CEV)
Proverbs 12: 12An evil person tries to hide behind
evil; good people are like trees with deep roots. (CEV)
2. Why does God often use trees to describe people who want
to serve Him, people He loves?
2 Peter 2: 1Sometimes false prophets spoke to the
people of Israel. False teachers will also sneak in and speak harmful lies
to you. But these teachers don't really belong to the Master who paid a
great price for them, and they will quickly destroy themselves. (CEV)
3. What causes some leaders and teachers to become false to
God and to their own followers?
1 John 4: 1 Dear friends, don't believe everyone who
claims to have the Spirit of God. Test them all to find out if they really
do come from God. Many false prophets have already gone out into the world,
(CEV)
4. Who should we trust and who should we avoid and watch out
for so we won't go astray?
Hebrews 12: 22You have now come to Mount Zion and
to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is the city of the living God, where thousands
and thousands of angels have come to celebrate. 23Here you will
find all of God's dearest children, whose names are written in heaven.
And you will find God himself, who judges everyone. Here also are the spirits
of those good people who have been made perfect. 24And Jesus
is here! He is the one who makes God's new agreement with us, and his sprinkled
blood says much better things than the blood of Abel. (CEV)
5. When God is with us, what do we have to look forward to when
we leave this body?
