Matthew 7: 28When Jesus finished speaking, the crowds
were surprised at his teaching. 29He taught them like someone
with authority, and not like their teachers of the Law of Moses. (CEV)
1. How did Jesus get the crowds to believe that He knew what
He was talking about?
1 Corinthians 1: 28What the world thinks is worthless,
useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world
considers important. 29God did all this to keep anyone from
bragging to him. 30You are God's children. He sent Christ Jesus
to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy. (CEV)
2. Why does God use what is worthless to destroy what this world
considers important?
Philippians 2: 7He gave up everything and became a
slave, when he became like one of us.
8Christ was humble. He
obeyed God and even died on a cross. 9Then God gave Christ the
highest place and honored his name above all others. 10So at
the name of Jesus everyone will bow down, those in heaven, on earth, and
under the earth. 11And to the glory of God the Father everyone
will openly agree, "Jesus Christ is Lord!" (CEV)
3. What did Jesus give up when He left Heaven to become a slave
and like one of us?
Matthew 28: 18Jesus came to them and said: I have
been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19Go to the
people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name
of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20and teach them
to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until
the end of the world. (CEV)
4. Who does Jesus want to go to people of all nations and tell
them what He did and taught?
Luke 24: 46.... The Scriptures .... 47...
say that all people of every nation must be told in my name to turn to
God, in order to be forgiven. So beginning in Jerusalem, 48you
must tell everything that has happened. 49I will send you the
one my Father has promised, but you must stay in the city until you are
given power from heaven. 50Jesus led his disciples out to Bethany,
where he raised his hands and blessed them. 51As he was doing
this, he left and was taken up to heaven. (CEV)
5. When we use our privilege to tell people about how wonderful
Jesus is, who helps us?
John 17: 19I have given myself completely for their
sake, so that they may belong completely to the truth. 20I am
not praying just for these followers. I am also praying for everyone else
who will have faith because of what my followers will say about me. 21I
want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and
you are one with me. I also want them to be one with us. Then the people
of this world will believe that you sent me. (CEV)
