Matthew 8: ²³After Jesus left in a boat with his disciples, ²⁴a terrible storm suddenly struck the lake, and waves started splashing into their boat. Jesus was sound asleep, ²⁵so the disciples went over to him and woke him up. They said, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" ²⁶But Jesus replied, "Why are you so afraid? You surely don't have much faith." Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to calm down. And everything was calm. ²⁷The men in the boat were amazed and said, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him." (CEV)
1. Why were the disciples so afraid of dying and Jesus not afraid at all?

Ephesians 1: ¹⁷I ask the glorious Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you his Spirit. The Spirit will make you wise and let you understand what it means to know God. ¹⁸My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God's people. ¹⁹I want you to know about the great and mighty power that God has for us.. (CEV)
2. When we discuss God's Word, how does His Spirit flood or hearts with understanding?

Ephesians 2: ¹⁰God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. That's why he sent Christ to make us what we are. (CEV)
3. How does doing good things please God and help to make us what we are in Christ?

Ephesians 4: ¹⁴We must stop acting like children. We must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings, which are like winds that toss us around from place to place. ¹⁵Love should always make us tell the truth. Then we will grow in every way and be more like Christ, the head ¹⁶of the body. Christ holds it together and makes all of its parts work perfectly, as it grows and becomes strong because of love. (CEV)
4. What are the winds that toss us around, and how does Jesus help us become a strong body?

Philippians 3: ¹³My friends, I don't feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for what is ahead. ¹⁴I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done. ¹⁵All of us who are mature should think in this same way. And if any of you think differently, God will make it clear to you. ¹⁶But we must keep going in the direction that we are now headed. (CEV)
5. Tell us one of the purposes or goals that Christ has given to you as part of His Family?

2 Timothy 4: ⁷I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful. ⁸So a crown will be given to me for pleasing the Lord. He judges fairly, and on the day of judgment he will give a crown to me and to everyone else who wants him to appear with power. (CEV)
6. When Paul was near the finish line, how does his fath compare with those scared to drown?
