Matthew 8: ²⁸After Jesus had crossed the lake, he came to shore near the town of Gadara and started down the road. Two men with demons in them came to him from the tombs. They were so fierce that no one could travel that way. ²⁹Suddenly they shouted, "Jesus, Son of God, what do you want with us? Have you come to punish us before our time?" ³⁰Not far from there a large herd of pigs was feeding. ³¹So the demons begged Jesus, "If you force us out, please send us into those pigs!" ³²Jesus told them to go, and they went out of the men and into the pigs. All at once the pigs rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned. ³³The people taking care of the pigs ran to the town and told everything, especially what had happened to the two men. ³⁴Everyone in town came out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their part of the country.
1. Why did those in Gadara not realize that Jesus came to show them why they were alive?

Luke 8: ³⁷.... When Jesus got into the boat... ³⁸the man who had been healed begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him off and said, ³⁹"Go back home and tell everyone how much God has done for you." The man then went all over town, telling everything that Jesus had done for him. (CEV)
2. What purpose did the Jesus have for the lives of those He healed of demons and diseases?

Ecclesiastes 1: ⁶The wind blows south, the wind blows north; round and round it blows over and over again. ⁷All rivers empty into the sea, but it never spills over; one by one the rivers return to their source. ⁸All of life is far more boring than words could ever say. Our eyes and our ears are never satisfied with what we see and hear. (CEV)
3. How can we learn to thank God for His Creation instead of being frustrated with it?

Proverbs 11: ²⁸Trust in your wealth, and you will be a failure, but God's people will prosper like healthy plants. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 9: ²⁴.... So run to win! ²⁵Athletes work hard to win a crown that cannot last, but we do it for a crown that will last forever. ²⁶I don't run without a goal. And I don't box by beating my fists in the air. ²⁷I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won't lose out after telling the good news to others. (CEV)
4. When we trust God to be our source of all good, how does that enable us to win our race?

Titus 2: ¹¹God has shown us how kind he is by coming to save all people. ¹²He taught us to give up our wicked ways and our worldly desires and to live decent and honest lives in this world. ¹³We are filled with hope, as we wait for the glorious return of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. ¹⁴He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right. (CEV)
5. Tell how Christ has helped you to be eager to know Him and to always do what He wants.
