Matthew 9: 1Jesus got into a boat and crossed back
over to the town where he lived. 2Some people soon brought to
him a crippled man lying on a mat. When Jesus saw how much faith they had,
he said to the crippled man, "My friend, don't worry! Your sins are forgiven."
3Some teachers of the Law of Moses said to themselves, "Jesus
must think he is God!"
4But Jesus knew what was in their minds,
and he said, "Why are you thinking such evil things? 5Is it
easier for me to tell this crippled man that his sins are forgiven or to
tell him to get up and walk? 6But I will show you that the
Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth." So Jesus said
to the man, "Get up! Pick up your mat and go on home." 7The
man got up and went home. 8When the crowds saw this,
they were afraid and praised God for giving such authority to people.

1. Why was Jesus not pleased with the teachers, but pleased
with the cripple and his friends?
Romans 12: 1... God is good. So I beg you to offer
your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's
the most sensible way to serve God. 2Don't be like the people
of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know
how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him. 3...
measure yourself by the amount of faith that God has given you.(CEV)
2. How do we have to think and act to know what is good and
pleasing to God?
Jeremiah 29::11I will bless you with a future filled
with hope - a future of success, not of suffering. 12You will
turn back to me and ask for help, and I will answer your prayers. 13You
will
worship me with all your heart, and I will be with you
(CEV)
3. Who do you know that has a future full of hope and success,
not of suffering?
2 Timothy 2: 21That's also how it is with people.
The ones who stop doing evil and make themselves pure will become special.
Their lives will be holy and pleasing to their Master, and they
will be able to do all kinds of good deeds. (CEV)
4. When people want to become pleasing to God, how does He make
them able to do that?
Psalms147: 11The LORD is pleased only with those
who worship him and trust his love.
Acts 10: 35God is pleased with everyone who worships
him and does right, no matter what nation they come from. (CEV)
5. What opens our minds and hearts to know that God has no favorites?
He loves all equally.
James 2: 22.... Abraham's faith and deeds worked together.
He proved that his faith was real by what he did. 23This is
what the Scriptures mean by saying, "Abraham had faith in God, and God
was pleased with him." That's how Abraham became God's friend. (CEV)
6. Tell us how you have learned to have faith from reading about
the life of Abraham.
