Luke 5: 19... So they went up on the roof, where they
removed some tiles and let the mat down in the middle of the room. 20When
Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the crippled man, "My friend,
your sins are forgiven." 21The Pharisees and the experts began
arguing, "Jesus must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins."
22Jesus knew what they were thinking,
and he said, "Why are you thinking that? 23Is it easier for
me to tell this crippled man that his sins are forgiven or to tell him
to get up and walk?
24But now you will see that the Son of Man
has the right to forgive sins here on earth." Jesus then said to the man,
"Get up! Pick up your mat and walk home."
25At once the man stood up in front of
everyone. He picked up his mat and went home, giving thanks to God. 26Everyone
was amazed and praised God. What they saw surprised them, and they said,
"We have seen a great miracle today!" (CEV)
1. How can this story encourage us to show and tell the people
we know what Jesus is like?
John 4: 35You may say that there are still four months
until harvest time. But I tell you to look, and you will see that the fields
are ripe and ready to harvest. 36Even now the harvest workers
are receiving their reward by gathering a harvest that brings eternal life.
Then everyone who planted the seed and everyone who harvests the crop will
celebrate together. 37So the saying proves true, "Some plant
the seed, and others harvest the crop." 38I am sending you to
harvest crops in fields where others have done all the hard work. (CEV)
2. What does studying Jesus' words together do to open our hearts
to see the harvest?
Romans 15: 1 If our faith is strong, we should be
patient with the LORD'S followers whose faith is weak. We should try to
please them instead of ourselves. 2We should think of their
good and try to help them by doing what pleases them. 3Even
Christ did not try to please himself. But as the Scriptures say, "The people
who insulted you also insulted me." 4And the Scriptures were
written to teach and encourage us by giving us hope. (CEV)
3. Why is it wise for us to try and please others rather than
thinking first or ourselves?
Colossians 4: 5When you are with unbelievers, always
make good use of the time. 6Be pleasant and hold their interest
when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to
give answers to anyone who asks questions. (CEV)
4. How does God use our circumstances to open our minds and
hearts to Him and to others?
Luke14: 23His master then told him, "Go out along
the back roads and fence rows and make people come in, so that my house
will be full. (CEV)
2 Timothy 2: 2You have often heard me teach. Now
I want you to tell these same things to followers who can be trusted to
tell others. (CEV)
5. Tell us how you have seen the Good News spread by a chain
of people telling others?
