Matthew 10: ⁴⁰Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me. 1. What are some reasons why Christ promises rewards to friendly, helpful people

John 15: ¹²Now I tell you to love each other, as I have loved you. ¹³The greatest way to show love for friends is to die for them. ¹⁴And you are my friends, if you obey me. ¹⁵Servants don't know what their master is doing, and so I don't speak to you as my servants. I speak to you as my friends, and I have told you everything that my Father has told me. ¹⁶You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last. Then my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. ¹⁷So I command you to love each other. (CEV)
2. Why does Jesus connect being friends with Him and producing fruit that will last?

James 2: ²²Now you see how Abraham's faith and deeds worked together. He proved that his faith was real by what he did. ²³This is what the Scriptures mean by saying, "Abraham had faith in God, and God was pleased with him." That's how Abraham became God's friend. (CEV)
3. How do our faith and deeds work together to please God, as they did with Abraham?

Proverbs 15: ³⁰A friendly smile makes you happy, and good news makes you feel strong.
Proverbs 16: ⁷When we please the LORD, even our enemies make friends with us.
Proverbs 17: ⁹You will keep your friends if you forgive them, but you will lose your friends if you keep talking about what they did wrong.... ¹⁷A friend is always a friend....
Proverbs 18: ²⁴Some friends don't help, but a true friend is closer than your own family. (CEV)
4. When we really do treat people as friends, what happens to us and those around us?

James 3: ¹⁷But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere.
Proverbs 27: ¹⁷Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other. (CEV)
5. What are some things friends do together that also bring blessings to others?

Ecclesiastes 4: ⁹You are better off to have a friend than to be all alone, because then you will get more enjoyment out of what you earn. ¹⁰If you fall, your friend can help you up. But if you fall without having a friend nearby, you are really in trouble. (CEV)
