James 1: ¹⁸He wanted us to be his own special people, and so he sent the true message to give us new birth. ¹⁹My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry.
James 1: ²⁵But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don't just hear and forget.
James 2: ¹²Speak and act like people who will be judged by the law that sets us free. (CEV)
1. Why are healthy communications vital for listening attentively and speaking graciously?

Colossians 2: ²I do it to encourage them. Then as their hearts are joined together in love, they will be wonderfully blessed with complete understanding. And they will truly know Christ.... Colossians 4: ⁵When you are with unbelievers, always make good use of the time. ⁶Be pleasant and hold their interest when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to give answers to anyone who asks questions. (CEV)
2. What are some important keys helping us to avoid sarcasm and hostility in the family?

Deuteronomy 6: ⁵So love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. ⁶Memorize his laws ⁷and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you're at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. (CEV)
3. How can we be most successful in teaching our children right, wrong, and responsibility?

Galatians 6: ⁷You cannot fool God, so don't make a fool of yourself! You will harvest what you plant. ⁸If you follow your selfish desires, you will harvest destruction, but if you follow the Spirit, you will harvest eternal life.... ¹⁰We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord. (CEV)
4. When we bail our children out of problems they need to solve themselves, what happens?

Psalms 90: ¹⁰We can expect seventy years, or maybe eighty.... Suddenly our time is up, and we disappear.... ¹²Teach us to use wisely all the time we have. (CEV)
5. What is there about a death in our family that turns our hearts and minds back to God?

Matthew 10: ³⁴Don't think that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came to bring trouble, not peace. ³⁵I came to turn sons against their fathers, daughters against their mothers, and daughters- in-law against their mothers-in-law. ³⁶Your worst enemies will be in your own family.... ³⁸And unless you are willing to take up your cross and come with me, you are not fit to be my disciples.(CEV)
6. Tell us how someone who follows Jesus can make friends even with hostile relatives.
