John 16: 33I have told you this, so that you might
have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you
will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.
2 Corinthians 4: 8We often suffer, but we are never
crushed. Even when we don't know what to do, we never give up. 9In
times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get
up again. 10_11We face death every day because of Jesus. Our
bodies show what his death was like, so that his life can also be seen
in us. (CEV)
1. In what ways can Christ's death show us that His Life can be seen
in us?
Philippians 4: 8Finally, my friends, keep your minds
on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever
stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise. (CEV)
1 Thessalonians 5: 21Put everything to the test.
Accept what is good 22and don't have anything to do with evil.
(CEV)
2. How can we keep our minds on spiritual fruit and the most holy faith?
Proverbs 24: 16Even if good people fall seven times,
they will get back up. But when trouble strikes the wicked, that's the
end of them. (CEV)
Isaiah 40: 31But those who trust the LORD will find
new strength. They will be strong like eagles soaring upward on wings;
they will walk and run without getting tired. (CEV)
3. Why and how is it that good people are resilient and can get back
up when they fall?
Philippians 4: 12.... I have lived under all kinds
of conditions. I know what it means to be full or to be hungry, to have
too much or too little. 13Christ gives me the strength to face
anything. (CEV)
Proverbs 4: 23Carefully guard your thoughts because
they are the source of true life. (CEV)
4. What helps us to face all kinds of conditions? Give examples.
Rom 12: 17... try to earn the respect of others, 18and
do your best to live at peace with everyone. (CEV)
Psalms 34: 17When his people pray for help, he listens
and rescues them from their troubles.
18The LORD is there to
rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. (CEV)
Psalms 84: 5You bless all who depend on you for their
strength.... (CEV)
5. Describe how Psalms 84 blesses all who depend on God for
their strength
Rom 5: 3But that's not all! We gladly suffer, because
we know that suffering helps us to endure.
4And endurance builds
character, which gives us a hope 5that will never disappoint
us. (CEV)
6. How does suffering build endurance and character in us?
Matthew 7: 6Don't give to dogs what belongs to God.
They will only turn and attack you. (CEV)
Matthew 19: 26Jesus looked straight at them and said,
"There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything."
(CEV)
7. Why does it take such a long time for us to realize that God can
do anything?
