Matthew 20: 25But Jesus called the disciples together
and said: You know that foreign rulers like to order their people around.
And their great leaders have full power over everyone they rule.
26But
don't act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of
all the others. (CEV)
Matthew 23: 11Whoever is the greatest should be the
servant of the others. (CEV)
Luke 22: 27Who do people think is the greatest, a
person who is served or one who serves? Isn't it the one who is served?
But I have been with you as a servant. (CEV)
1. Why do you think that Jesus wants husband and wife to share leadership
roles in the family?
1 Peter 5: 3Don't be bossy to those people who are
in your care, but set an example for them. (CEV)
3 John 1: 11.... don't copy the evil deeds of others!
Follow the example of people who do kind deeds. They are God's children,
but those who are always doing evil have never seen God. (CEV)
2. How can we see needs and fill them, come along side others and give
them a hand?
1 Corinthians 4: 6Dear brothers and sisters, I have
used Apollos and myself to illustrate what I've been saying. If you pay
attention to the Scriptures, you won't brag about one of your leaders at
the expense of another. 7What makes you better than anyone else?
What do you have that God hasn't given you? And if all you have is from
God, why boast as though you have accomplished something on your own? (NLT)
1
Timothy 1: 16But since I was worse than anyone else, God
had mercy on me and let me be an example of the endless patience of Christ
Jesus. He did this so that others would put their faith in Christ and have
eternal life. (CEV)
3. Why do some people prefer one leader over another? Why do some not
follow Jesus?
1 Corinthians 9: 19I am not anyone's slave. But I
have become a slave to everyone, so that I can win as many people as possible....
21....
Of course, I never really forget about the law of God. In fact, I am ruled
by the law of Christ. 22When I am with people whose faith is
weak, I live as they do to win them. I do everything I can to win everyone
I possibly can. (CEV)
4. Why is it so important to encourage the weak and the downtrodden?
1 Corinthians 10: 12Even if you think you can stand
up to temptation, be careful not to fall.
13You are tempted
in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not
to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from
your temptations....
23Some of you say, "We can do whatever we want to!" But
I tell you that not everything may be good or helpful. 24We
should think about others and not about ourselves....
33I always try to please others instead of myself, in the
hope that many of them will be saved. 1 Cor 11: 1You
must follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (CEV)
