Matthew 14: 22Right away, Jesus made his disciples
get into a boat and start back across the lake. But he stayed until he
had sent the crowds away. 23Then he went up on a mountain where
he could be alone and pray. Later that evening, he was still there. (CEV)
Luke 5: 16But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness
for prayer. (NLT)
1. Why do we sometimes feel a let down on Monday?
Mark 1: 36Simon and those with him went looking for
him. 37They found him and said, "Everybody's looking for you."
38Jesus said, "Let's go to the rest of the villages so I can
preach there also. This is why I've come." (MSG)
2. What insights do you see in these stories about Jesus and the Kingdom?
Matthew 19: 13Some people brought their children to
Jesus, so that he could place his hands on them and pray for them. His
disciples told the people to stop bothering him. 14But Jesus
said, "Let the children come to me, and don't try to stop them! People
who are like these children belong to God's kingdom." 15After
Jesus had placed his hands on the children, he left. (CEV)
3. Why would people bring their children to Jesus? What does this say
to us?
John 4: 31... Jesus' disciples were saying to him,
"Teacher, please eat something." 32But Jesus told them, "I have
food that you don't know anything about."... 34... My food is
to do what God wants! He is the one who sent me, and I must finish the
work that he gave me to do. (CEV)
4. In what way was "God's will" food for Jesus?
Matthew 13: 51Jesus asked his disciples if they understood
all these things. They said, "Yes, we do." 52So he told them,
"Every student of the Scriptures who becomes a disciple in the kingdom
of heaven is like someone who brings out new and old treasures from the
storeroom." (CEV)
5. Who are the teachers of the Old Law? Who have been instructed in
the New Gospel?
Matthew 7: 17A good tree produces good fruit, and
a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot produce
bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. Luke 6: 44You
can tell what a tree is like by the fruit it produces. You cannot pick
figs or grapes from thornbushes. 45Good people do good things
because of the good in their hearts. Bad people do bad things because of
the evil in their hearts. Your words show what is in your heart. (CEV)
6. In your present life what is your need, to learn more or to practice
what you already know?
Colossians 3: 1You have been raised to life with Christ.
Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right
side. 2Think about what is up there, not about what is here
on earth. 3You died, which means that your life is hidden with
Christ, who sits beside God. 4Christ gives meaning to your life,
and when he appears, you will also appear with him in glory. (CEV)
